This week, Wimborne Deanery welcomed Archbishop Samuel from the Diocese of Yambio and Nazara in South Sudan as part of its ongoing deanery link. The Diocese of Salisbury is connected to Sudan and South Sudan through the Salisbury Sudans Partnership, which is inclusive of the Salisbury Sudan Medical Link.
Archbishop Samuel visited churches, schools, baby and toddler groups and personally thanked fundraisers. He discussed the current challenges being faced: conflict, hunger, flooding, the economy and lack of healthcare, and received gifts from Wimborne schools for children in South Sudan who have so little.
In August, we did a call-out for clerical collars, resulting in global donations, all received by Archbishop Samuel on this trip.
The Episcopal Church of South Sudan (ECSS) asks for three things:
1. Your continued prayers for a sustainable peace in South Sudan
2. Continued advocacy from the diocese on addressing the current humanitarian crisis
3. Aid and support to the ECSS to build the capacity of the Church
