Summer Fete celebration!

On Sunday 7 June, the Sudan Medical Link Summer fete raised over £10,000! This year, the Fete took place in the grounds of Salisbury Cathedral School, and those who braved the grey weather enjoyed listening to and watching performances.

Commenting on the event, Alison Sutherland-Kay of the Salisbury Sudan Fete Committee said: "We are particularly grateful to the Cathedral School for hosting the Fete, to Bishop Karen for presenting the raffle prizes and to those individuals and local companies who provided raffle prizes.

"But we couldn't have raised so much without the many donations of plants, books, bric-a-brac, toys, bottles and greetings cards, not to mention our small army of cake-bakers and Fete volunteers."

The Sudan Medical Link uses the funds raised to buy drugs and medical packs for distribution to clinics in South Sudan. The clinics fight diseases like malaria and typhoid fever, as well as reduce mother-and-baby mortality by supporting birthing mothers.

Save the date! The next Sudan Medical Link event will be on 11 October in Salisbury and feature two of the BBC Antiques Roadshow experts.
