St. Michael and All Angels greeting cards!

Since 2012, a small team have met regularly at St. Michael and All Angels, Colehill, Wimborne to make greeting cards to sell in aid of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan(ECSS). The original idea and learning came from Katharine Callard from Salisbury, who has raised funds in this way for many years to support the Salisbury/Sudan Medical Link.

The team, led by Jill Beech, collects used cards that are donated to local churches and to “Win on Waste” recycling sessions, cuts the fronts and then remounts them on fresh card and sells (complete with matching envelope) for 50p each. All types of cards are remade, such as Birthday, Christmas, Easter, and all types of greeting cards, i.e. get well, sympathy, etc together with many blank cards for multiple uses.

The cards are sold at St Michael's and All Angels Church in the Wimborne Deanery, and they also sell at “Win on Waste" sessions, where people can see what happens to the cards that they donate for recycling. They welcome invitations from local Charity events where the cards can be sold.

Over 13 years, they have raised over £9,000. The project was initially started to raise funds for Sheila Soper to take directly out to Yambio when she visited the region. Sheila’s legacy is that this work continues and is still making an impact.

£950 was recently donated to the ECSS in Yambio for the purchase of bicycles for the Mothers’ Union in remote areas.

On 20.03.2026, they received the welcome news that the money had been transferred successfully and 9 bicycles had been bought to support the outreach work of the Mothers Union in Yambio and rural areas. These bikes were presented at the MU Conference 2026, where the topic was “Strong Families Build Strong Churches”.
